Will the People's Republic of China initiate a military operation against Taiwan before December 31, 2027?

Geopolitics · Volume I · AVUM Editorial

Why It Matters

There isn't another single geopolitical question with broader potential consequences related to military alliances, U.S.-China relations, financial markets, energy shipping, global semiconductor supply, and potential "great-power" conflict.

Resolution Criteria

Official statements and releases from the Government of the People's Republic of China, the Ministry of National Defense (PRC), the Ministry of National Defense (Taiwan), and corroborating official announcements from the U.S. Department of Defense if necessary.official publication

YES if, before the deadline, the PRC officially initiates sustained military operations involving the employment of armed force against Taiwan. NO if no such operation has commenced by the deadline. Routine exercises, air incursions, naval patrols, cyber operations, or diplomatic actions alone do not qualify unless officially acknowledged as the initiation of military operations.
